American HealthCare Billing Services, LLC is a full-service podiatry-exclusive billing company. Founded in 2003, our firm has billed for more than 100 podiatrists in 35 states. Our team collectively has more than four decades of experience in the field of podiatry, including a doctor of podiatric medicine who has lectured nationally on podiatric coding, reimbursement, and compliance and a podiatry office manager with more than 41 years on the job.

Facility type: Independent podiatry practice
Problems faced: The podiatry practice based in Texas relied on the IMS of its billing company for medical billing. They had issues with reporting. And a high rate of claim denials as the billing company failed to audit claims.
Our Solution: AHCBS transferred the podiatry practice’s revenue cycle data from the IMS to an EMR of their choice. Our certified revenue cycle auditors identified that the previous medical billing company repeatedly billed modifier 59 and the -X {EPSU} modifier on the same line to insurers. This led to a high claim rejection rate.
As periodic claim audits were not carried out the first pass claim acceptance rate was at a dismal 58%.
